Our chickens are very sweet. They are open to a huge run on most days or on days where predators are less likely - they are free ranged and can be found resting or scratching all over the farm.
Wayland, a rescued rooster, and as nice as could be, watches over his flock. In the background you can see the chicken coop where the girls are probably busy laying eggs in their nesting
boxes.
Once every few years, I get a fairy egg. These are tiny eggs a chicken will lay. Not sure why, but it's fun to find them in the nesting box!
Keos came to us as an approximately well-loved 8 year old bantam Dutch rooster after a neighbor passed away. He is such a sweet boy, who is constantly competing cock-a-doodle-doos with Weyland.
So Keos wouldn’t be lonely, we put out a plea to get a female bantam and a generous family let us have Lucy and Keos fell head over heels for her. Lucy now is caring for 2 Lavender Orphington chicks as her own soon enough we will know if they are hens or roosters.
