Bourbon Red Turkeys

A New Beginning At The Farm

A New Beginning At The Farm

A New Beginning At The Farm

In May of 2023, we adopted 6 Kentucky Bourbon Red Turkeys.  We were looking to get a Tom to strut beautifully around the farm.

Getting to know the farm

A New Beginning At The Farm

They made themselves at home within a few days and were everywhere!  They had to be watched carefully every minute of the day!

And We Mean EVERYWHERE!

A New Beginning At The Farm

Before we know it they were outside!

They took over the horse barn, and had to be checked and counted every few hours if we weren't in the barn.

They enjoyed being outside in the dog yard.  They could be seen flying up on the roof, on the chimney top, on the Pergola roof, in the duck yard.  They were everywhere!

And Enjoying Life on the Farm!

Because they are curious birds and like to forage, they would lead each other to the street, across to the neighbors, to the neighbors on the left and right of us within minutes.  Chasing them and herding them back was no easy feat.  We decided it was time for their own coop, run and fenced in yard.

The Best Part is we thought we had TWO Toms!

We finally started to see two puff up when strangers entered the yard.  We thought we had two Toms and 4 Hens.  Turns out, we have 1 Tom and 5 Hens.

One Tom, 5 Hens

This Tom is friendly and BIG, weighing over 30lbs, and watches the girls like a hawk.

Meet Ozmandias (King of Kings).  He talks to you if you know his language.  And he talks A LOT!

Then there are the hens:  Önder (leader), Kayra (Grace, blessing), Ümit (hope), Olcay (lucky), and Toe (Long Story....)
